Canon launches new flatbed

Canon today announced a new flatbed scanner in its range, the $249 CanoScan FB630U, featuring USB connectivity.

Canon says the new scanner is the slimmest available on the market, with a height of 39mm and a footprint not much larger than a sheet of A4 paper.

The FB630U offers 12-bit data input, a maximum optical resolution of 600 x 1200dpi, plus an interpolated resolution of up to 9600dpi, says Canon.

Software bundled with the scanner includes Ulead PhotoExpress 2.0, OmniPage LE OCR and ScanGear TWAIN driver, which allows users to modify elements of an image before the final scan (such as image reversing and positive/negative).
