Windows 2000 to launch in February

Microsoft is aiming for February 17 as the retail release date for its Windows 2000 operating system, the software giant announced in Las Vegas yesterday.

The company is still aiming to have Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server released to manufacturing during calendar year 1999, and says that February 17, 2000 will be the launch date, provided that feedback from early-adopter customers is positive.

With no apparent sense of irony - considering the uncertainty that has for years surrounded the final launch date of the operating system -- Deborah Willingham, vice president of Microsoft's Business Enterprise Division at Microsoft was quoted in a press release as saying: "We are thrilled that customers and partners can build their plans around the general availability of Windows 2000."

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
