Partnership to bring high speed Net access to Australia

Cable & Wireless Optus (CWO) today announced a partnership with US company Excite@Home to bring a high-speed Internet service aimed at consumers to Australia.

A new company called At Home Network Australia, will be formed out of the partnership, and the service called Optus@Home will be available to 2.2 million homes that are passed by the broadband Optus HFC cable, announced the companies.

Excite@Home is reportedly the largest high speed ISP in North America and holds over 50 per cent of the broadband market worldwide. The company is also know for its Internet portal http://www.excite.com.au.

The service in addition to Internet access, will offer custom broadband content such as CD-quality audio, software downloads, high-speed games and video-on-demand.
