Harvey Norman to release $999 PC

Next week Harvey Norman will release a new $999 PC aimed at beginners.

The retailer initially tested the market in January with 2000 units of a $999 Signature-branded PC incorporating a Cyrix GX 180 processor. Customer response was "tremendous" with all units selling out within three days , according to Tony Gattari, general manager for computers and communications at Harvey Norman.

Starting next week, Harvey Norman will nationally release 5000 units of the Signature multi-media PC, priced at $999, and featuring a Cyrix MII 300 processor.

The PC also includes 32MB SDRAM, 3.2GB Ultra DMA hard drive, 24x CD-ROM, 14in monitor, speakers and Windows 98.
