Windows Media Player does it beta

Although Version 7 of Microsoft's streaming media player software is targeted mainly at consumers, it does offer improvements that will help enterprise users as well. Chief among them is broadcast-quality video that allows streaming media to remain as close to the quality of the original as possible.

Version 7 also offers enhanced digital video playback that allows users to adjust the video size and quality of content that is recorded in the Digital Video (DV) format used by MiniDV camcorders. The higher quality video is important for applications such as training videos that may contain detailed visual cues.

Media Player users can also record and store information from other media types such as compact discs. This feature can be used for those that have information on a CD that they want stored on their computer for easier access.

Microsoft has also added the ability to customize the look of the player on a desktop screen using "skins." Users can choose from a number of canned skins, such as the above example, or create their own based on their corporate look and feel.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
