Lycos launches online music station

Lycos has launched itself as an online broadcaster, announcing a new push into Internet audio with Lycos Radio (http://www.lycos.com/entertainment/lycosradio.html).
Simultaneous music and video will be played by disc jockeys on the five channels of Lycos Radio, which includes hip hop, smooth jazz, alternative and country. The number of channels is set to expand, the company has said, and it is offering listeners the chance to buy CDs and merchandise as they listen to the music.
Like a real radio station or music broadcaster, the disc jockeys will take requests (via e-mail), and make news or promotion announcements.
If listeners hear a song in midstream, they can hit "replay" to start at the beginning of the song, taking control away from the disc jockey, said Lycos.
Meanwhile, advertisers can target their ads to users of a specific station or have ads run when certain music is playing, Lycos said.
