Hanimex to release $299 digital camera

On April fools day Hanimex will release a new entry-level digital camera with a price tag of $299 and sporting three fashionable colours, the company has announced.

According to Hanimex, the DigiPix AXIS is a small pocket-sized camera that weighs 122 grams, and includes a 350,000 pixel CCD that produces images with resolutions of up to 640 x 480 pixels.

The camera's lens is equivalent to a 50mm lens on a standard 35mm camera, and requires no focusing - Hanimex claims everything from 20cm to infinity is in "perfectly clear focus".

The DigiPix AXIS comes in red, green and blue, and includes a 2MB SmartMedia card for the storage of images, plus a serial cable and image transfer and editing software.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
