Case against Microsoft starts today

After three delays, the US Department of Justice's antitrust case against Microsoft is slated to get under way today in Washington.
The Department of Justice will try to prove that the software maker has built a desktop monopoly through illegal business practices and predatory tactics.
Microsoft counters that the lawsuit, filed in May by the federal government and several state attorneys general, is an unfair attempt by regulators -- in collusion with industry rivals -- to curb the company's success.
An array of industry executives, academics and economic experts will take the stand during the trial, which most observers expect to last from five to eight weeks. Also, the government will play portions of videotaped deposition testimony from Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, according to one source.
