New Polaroid printer produces glossy photographs

A new digital photographic printer from Polaroid enables PC users to produce "high quality glossy silver halide photographs", the company claims.

The ColorShot, retailing at $599, takes 15 seconds to print a digital file as a glossy photograph, according to Polaroid, and "brings a new dimension to digital imaging".

The printer uses a proprietary print mechanism with Polaroid instant film -- no toner, inks or ribbons are required, the company says. Images of 580 x 480 pixels, with 24-bit colour resolution can be printed directly, others can be resized to that resolution for printing.

A cigarette lighter AC adaptor, which will allow the ColorShot to be used in the car, will be available in December. ColorShot film is priced at $19.95 for 10 exposures.
