Software speeds up Net connections, company claims

A new software package titled CheckIt NetOptimiser and developed by Touchstone Software, is claimed to speed up "every Internet operation" by as much as 100 per cent, its distributor, Manaccom, says.

CheckIt NetOptimiser ($49.95 RRP), "adjusts modem, port and software settings to accept faster data from the Internet," Manaccom says. The program adjusts settings three times, downloading a test file and benchmarking the results -- the best configuration of those tests is then applied.

According to Touchstone Software, improvements in speed will depend on a number of variances including modem type, Internet congestion, and crowded pipelines.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
