The SonicWALL firewall aims to protect Internet-connected businesses from "hackers and intruders, preventing theft, destruction, and manipulation of critical business data".

The product is about the size of a video cassette and is platform-independent. It is managed by a Web browser and activity logs are sent via e-mail. Reports include information on most accessed Web site, top users of bandwidth, and top users of bandwidth by service.

Security incorporates stateful packet inspection; blocks denial of serive (DoS) attacks, ActiveX, Java, cookies; lifetime subscription for updates of new hacking attacks via e-mail; and alerts via e-mail when attacks are underway.

SonicWALL also has an option to prevent employees from accessing "objectionable" Web sites and newsgroups.

Pricing starts at $1265 for 10 IP addresses, SonicWALL can be ordered from Dovetail Distribution (phone (02) 9418 2487) reseller partners.
