Mike Boorne Electronics has released the Spirit Ranger internal 56K modem for $99.

Rather than have two chips -- a coder/decoder chip and a processor chip -- the Spirit Ranger uses just one: the PC-Tel chipset, which interfaces with a PC's processor. According to the vendor, using only one chip allows the low cost of the modem.

The Spirit Ranger uses Rockwell's Kflex technology and is compatible with the new V.90 standard. It also acts as a full duplex speakerphone and has voice and fax capabilities.

A Pentium 120 or equivalent is recommended. Unlimited technical support Australia-wide is available, and a 24-hour dialup service for the latest driver updates.

Spirit Ranger is available from leading computer retailers; for further informaiton call Mike Boorne Electronics on (02) 9906 6666.
