Fax via e-mail? Panasonic has the solution

A fax machine that can send messages via e-mail has been launched by Panasonic. At $6999 RRP, the UF-770i looks like a fax machine and works like a normal fax machine but has the added flexibility that it can transmit faxes to e-mail addresses.

To send a fax, the user dials the e-mail address like they would for a normal fax number. The machine then converts the fax to a TIFF-F file links it to an e-mail in MIME format, and transmits the message to the mail server.

Panasonic says the UF-770i can also act as a scanner -- users can send a "fax" to their own e-mail address, which will be received in a TIFF format on their desktop.
