BPAY to go online in 2000

Switched-on bill payers will have a new method of payment option come early next year when BPAY launches an online electronic billing and payment system in Australia.

The system to be used, called Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment (EBPP), will offer users a single point of access online to receive and pay bills from any participating organisation.

The system is expected to save billers up to $1 to $2 on each bill and should provide the greatest benefits for the 5 per cent of organisations in Australia which generate 65 per cent of the 400 million bills produced each year, says BPAY.

With 6.5 million registered users and more than 1100 organisations accepting electronic payments, BPAY has found increasing support since its launch in 1997 and expects EBPP will follow suit.
