Australia's first dual-mode modem appears in the form of the Roadster II from NetComm.

The Roadster II supports both K56flex technology and the V.90 standard, as well as the V.80 video phone standard. The bundle also includes Symantec's WinFaxPRO 8.

The modem has an inbuilt microphone and speaker for hands-free speakerphone capability, as well as a headset for private calls. The Roadster II also offers Simultaneous Voice and Data (SVD). Any future changes to the V.90 standard can be downloaded from NetComm's Web site.

The RRP of the NetComm Roadster II is $299.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
