Books: eBay Bargain Shopping for Dummies
Deanne McIntosh (PC World) 02/03/2004 07:56:23

The popularity of eBay continues to grow — with good reason: everyone loves a bargain! This book aims to help you find and win that bargain without being ripped off.

After an introductory section on eBay, Collier gets straight into bidding on items and winning them. And, because you don’t want to wait for the tips too long, you get chapter three: Bargain shopping secrets exposed. You may have heard some of the secrets before if you’re an eBay regular, but it’s useful and interesting with Collier’s examples of how she found some great bargains. There are even successful strategies for sniping.

As every eBay fan knows, there’s more to a transaction than finding an item and successfully bidding on it, and eBay Bargain Shopping for Dummies has good information for how to not get ripped off.

Amongst all this useful info, however, are some US-centric sections that will not be appealing to Australian eBay users. There’s a chapter, for instance, on paying for your eBay win but no mention of direct deposit — one of the most popular methods here in Australia. The section on buying a car notes loads of fun and interesting buys — a 1947 Coca-Cola vending truck, for instance — but of course they’re only available in the States.

If you’re willing to go past lots of US examples and some content that doesn’t fit Australia, Collier has many tips to offer would-be eBay bidders.
