Octek Professional System XB835
- — 02 November, 2005 17:22
Octek has pulled out all stops when building this desktop. Running a Pentium D 3.2GHz processor, 2GB of DDR2 dual-channel 533MHz RAM and a Viewpower 7800GTX PCI Express video card, the XB835 has enough to whet anybody's appetite. The graphics processing power that this PC produces is fantastic, earning a high 3DMark score of 5214.
On the storage front, two 250GB hard disks are included in a striped RAID array with a 16MB cache. Adding to the storage versatility of the XB835, Octek has included a multimedia card reader that supports Memory Stick Pro and Duo, CF/ Microdrive, SM, MMC and SD formats.
The innovations that set this unit apart from its competition are the inclusion of dual monitors, a Compro TV tuner card and a wireless 108Mbps network card. It is becoming increasingly apparent that one monitor is just not enough, so Octek has bundled dual CTX 17in LCD monitors as standard. This is very handy for most productivity applications, but pretty useless for games.
The XB835 scored 95 in WorldBench, showing its prowess in its ability as an efficient platform for the professional (as its name suggests). It will suit the professional, the gamer, the couch potato and the creative types among us. Alas, all of this comes at a price of $4849. Though at first that may seem a tad expensive, it is actually quite reasonable considering how future-proofed the system is. Along with the top tech specs goes a three-year on-site nationwide warranty and upgrade potential that includes two vacant RAM slots, a extra 5.25in drive bay and three vacant PCI slots inside the tool-less chassis.
Octek Professional XB835
Verdict: A good quality, future-proofed system that will suit any power user.
