Casio introduces slim-line projector

At InfoComm, Casio has announced two new projectors that take full advantage of the digital imaging company's expertise in lens technology and miniaturization. The Super Slim Projector XJ-S35 and the XJ-S30 models--the latest in the Cassiopeia Pro line--sport a fairly unique form factor, one that road warriors will appreciate since it complements an ultraportable notebook PC in physical size, shape, and weight. These projectors measure just 1.69 inches in height (knock that down to 1.26 inches at its thinnest point).
Like Casio's first projectors, the Cassiopeia Pro XJ-360 and and XJ-560, these models have a 2X 20mm to 40mm lens, which is convenient for a variety of presenting environments, whether you're close to the screen (up to 2.7-feet from the surface) or at the back of conference room.
When the company came up with its strategy for its latest models, says Robert J. Garbutt, general manager of the business projector division, "We decided not to do a me-too product. Our target market was the 500 largest sales forces in the United States. These people are second, third generation projectors buyers, and they're very discerning. They're not going to accept just anything at this stage. They wanted something that was small and light, but they wanted something that didn't require a separate carrying case. And they wanted something that was bright, at least 2000 lumens."
And so the basic specs for the US$1499 XJ-S30 and US$1699 XJ-S35 evolved. The models are rated at 2000 lumens for brightness, feature 4:3 aspect ratio XGA resolution and a four-segment DLP color wheel, and have VGA and composite video connectivity. The XJ-S35 also features a USB port so you can attach a USB flash memory drive and run presentations directly from the drive. A wireless 802.11g dongle will be available as an option; with it, up to four PCs can feed into a single projector wirelessly.
The projectors will ship in early September 2006.
