Pioneer delays Blu-ray disc player

Pioneer Wednesday announced a delay for its first-generation Blu-ray Disc player, the Elite BDP-HD1. Originally due out later this month, this model is now scheduled to ship in September, according to Pioneer. Blu-ray Disc is expected to launch later this month; last we heard, both Sony and Samsung still plan to have players available timed to the launch.
One piece of good news, though: Pioneer has also announced the player will carry a retail price of US$1500, as opposed to the US$1800 retail price stated earlier this year at CES.
Separately, Pioneer has denied recent reports that the company is getting out of the DVD recorder business. The company also reasserted to me that its Blu-ray Disc business, for both PC burners and living room, is going strong.
