Common PC Problems Solved: The Ultimate FAQ
- — 06 November, 2006 09:09
Every month I hear from PC World Readers about the issues they're having with their machines. While I can't respond to everyone, I answer as many as possible. If I know the solution to a problem, or believe I can give some good advice, I'll reply. I don't have time to research questions other than the few that appear in print or on PCWorld.com.
In my years of writing this column, I've seen some questions that readers ask repeatedly. The following tips solve the problems that nearly every PC user will encounter eventually, so if you don't need these answers right now, keep 'em handy: They'll be useful to you someday.

In the last month or so, whenever I put my digital memory card from my camera into the card reader on my P.C. (plugged into a USB port), the card reader icon just disappears. I take the card out, and it comes back again. I've tried re-booting, changing the card reader (twice), changing the memory card and even the BRAND of memory card, plugging the reader into ANOTHER USB port, changing the drive letter for the reader...all to no avail. I haven't downloaded or installed any new programs during the time it's been playing up. I even tried a systems restore...no good. The card reader is a Sansai brand, the memory cards are SanDisk and Kingston. Can you help? Please? Regards, John.
