Trend Micro updates SMB security package

Trend Micro introduced an updated version of its client-server messaging security software package for small-to-midsize business, adding antispyware protection for the desktop.
The Client-Server Messaging Security 3.5 package is intended for organizations with as many as 1,000 users, with a typical deployment of about 100 users per location. The package allows administrators in a Windows-based computer and server environment to push out client security software to the desktop and run antispam protection for Microsoft's Exchange e-mail server.
Jon Clay, Trend Micro's product marketing manager for the SMB markets, says the latest version adds a way to remove spyware from the desktop. The 3.5 edition, which also offers desktop antivirus protection, is managed through a Web-based dashboard.
"You install the administrative console on a Windows server or even a desktop," Clay says. "The customer has one file to install. And we will uninstall the competitors' products out there, too."
The SMB edition, sold under Trend's "Worry-Free" brand name, provides a way to establish a PC as the update agent to push out security updates.
The software contains the same antivirus protection as Trend Micro's large-enterprise products, with the main difference being the ease of installation for smaller companies, says Clay.
Trend's large-enterprise products support heterogeneous computing environments, while the Trend Micro edition for the SMB market is Windows-only. The security policies offered in the SMB edition are not as complex as in the enterprise versions, which offer the ability to push out a wide variety of security policies.
However, like the enterprise version, the SMB edition offers a variety of reporting methods, including graphical representation.
Pricing starts at US$483 per year for 10 users, with pricing for 100 users set at US$4,620 per year. The latest version is free for existing Client-Server Messaging Security customers.
