German chipmaker, Infineon Technologies, has agreed to buy Texas Instruments' DSL Customer Premises Equipment, the companies said. They did not disclose the value of the deal or answer other questions, such as possible layoffs or how the new business will be run.
"The deal is still pending regulatory clearance," an Infineon spokesperson said. He said the company would reveal more about the transaction after it was approved.
The digital subscriber line (DSL) CPE business develops networking technologies aimed at delivering music, TV, movies and other content from the Internet to user TVs and PCs. The chips developed by the group go into a range of products including gateways and routers.
Infineon said it would continue to support existing TI customers and designs to ensure continuity of products, in addition to using the purchase to build new technologies.
