Intel may be getting all the press with its Intel Developer Forum, but AMD has jumped on YouTube to claim some of the air-space back.
AMD VP of Advanced Marketing, Patrick Moorhead responded to Intel CEO Paul S. Otellini's keynote via a You Tube video posted two days ago.
"Today what I would like to do is show you the graphic superiority of an AMD mainstream based PC versus and Intel one. Over the last couple of weeks Intel announced a new graphic driver for their G965 and they even had a blog about the improvements that were made. What I would like to show you though, is the reality about the improvements," he says in his introduction.
He then demonstrates games such as Far Cry, Shadowrun and Sims 2 over two equally configured PCs, one Intel-based and one AMD-based. See the video here.
So far viewer comments demonstrate a fairly equal mix of sceptics and supporters.
"Of course AMD is going to talk smack about graphics (since they bought ATI) because their processors are not nearly as powerful as Intel's Core 2 product line... Graphics is the only smoke and mirror trick AMD has left," writes WoodPDX .
Harrisdurrani thinks the argument is not about processors but about motherboards with integrated Video "and AMD destroys Intel in that department because of ATI. There is not doubt C2D's are better processors though."
Sintel writes that Core2 is a superior processor to A64 but that A64+690G is a superior standalone (without add-in cards) platform to C2+G965.
"Which is actually mostly an accomplishment thanks to ATI efforts, made largely before the acquisition. Nevertheless, platforms is where it's at for the mainstream buyer these days."
Stromchin meanwhile wonders what the point (of onboard chips) is.
"Intel just makes mainstream (also known as cheap) embedded graphic chips, nothing to call home about. I'm actually surprised BF2 runs so (well). If you want to play on your PC, you buy a graphics card, and not use crappy on board chips."
This YouTube announcement is not a one-off event for AMD, which seems to be thinking the video sharing site is a good marketing tool. It has recently announced its triple-core processors via YouTube and AMD server and workstation general manager Randy Allen also has his moment of fame. He talks about AMD's Quad-Core Architecture.
