Telstra will introduce a fee for mobile phone customers signed up to its customer loyalty program who want to switch providers and a levy on customers wishing to reduce their pre-set monthly call levels.
Loyalty program customers will be charged a $150 fee to change carriers while customers will have to pay a $50 levy to reduce their pre-set monthly call amounts.
The new fees are the downside to discount rates Telstra is planning to introduce into its new loyalty and rewards program called more4you.
Under the new system, users nominate their minimum call time and get better discounts the more they exceed that minimum. The system will use 30 second blocks to charge call time.
Telstra has denied the program flies in the face of government deregulation aimed at giving mobile phone owners freedom of choice in the market.
Last year the federal government deregulated the market allowing mobile customers to change phone carriers but keep the same number.
