Bocada, Arsenal Digital Solutions and Digisense separately announced upgraded software and services designed to help enterprises better manage and protect their data.

Bocada announced a consolidated-management and reporting console for Microsoft's System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007 that lets IT managers view the operation of multiple DPM servers from a single console. The optional plug-in module monitors all servers -- Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint Services and Windows file servers -- backed up with DPM. It does not require the use of agents and works with storage applications from CA, EMC, HP, IBM and Symantec, among others. Bocada's DPM module is expected to be available this quarter at 15% to 20% of the cost of the backup software.

Meanwhile, Arsenal Digital today announced a new service in its managed services portfolio. ViaBack RecoveryPlus lets customers back up data to disk as well as to tape. It uses deduplication technology licensed from EMC/Avamar and supports Serial ATA-based disks.

RecoveryPlus is available in two editions: ViaBack RecoveryPlus Premier and ViaBack RecoveryPlus Value. The Premier edition is targeted at customers who have databases and transaction-intensive applications to back up. The Value edition is targeted at most other types of data and digital video. Arsenal ViaBack RecoveryPlus is priced at US$5/GB backed up.

Online-backup provider Digisense is enhancing its Digisense System with faster data restoration, SNMP management and point-in-time restoration of business-critical applications. The Digisense System performs off-site archiving and hosting of data at Amazon's S3 data centers; a near-line appliance resides at customer sites. The SNMP support allows managed service providers to integrate alerts and reports into existing management consoles. Subscriptions for the appliance and software start at US$150 per month, per managed service provider customer.
