According to a report published on Thursday by Hitwise, a firm that monitors internet search traffic, Grand Theft Auto IV is expected to "handily" outsell Halo 3 as one of the biggest video games in recent memory.
Pre-launch searches for "Grand Theft Auto 4/IV" overtook those for Halo 3 by 22 per cent, which historically equals greater sales, says Hitwise. Further corroborating the findings is a new estimate by VG Chartz released today, which reports that Grand Theft Auto IV sold an impressive 4.2 million worldwide copies on Tuesday.
In fairness, Halo 3 (was and) is available for only one console, the Xbox 360, compared to Grand Theft Auto IV, which is available for both 360 and PlayStation 3. Suffice it to say both games have done very well, thank you.
