Rust- and splash-resistant, a soft rubber-like casing to resist the bumps, and weighs only 92g. The 5210 is Nokia's pitch for the active lifestyle market.

Unlike other Nokia phones with a rear shell over the battery and a front shell over the face over the phone, the 5210 shell is divided just below the screen into a top and bottom half. The standard colour of the shell is Burned Orange, but four other colours are available: Thirsty Blue, Wave Blue, Flushed Yellow, and Weathered Green.

Other 'active lifestyle' features include an armband holster, a stopwatch with split and lap timing, a countdown timer and a thermometer (Celsius and Fahrenheit). The stopwatch allows times set to be recorded in the calendar. Sports training can be scheduled in the calendar in addition to reminders and meetings.

The phone supports WAP 1.1, 14.4Kbps GSM data connectivity and concatenated SMS, and has an infrared port. Also present are voice dialling and standard Nokia features including five games, multiple ring tones, an alarm clock, and a calculator. Rhythmic vibration makes the phone vibrate in time with the selected ring tone.

This lightweight rugged phone is well designed to take the punishment associated with day-to-day use. Certainly, it's not indestructible - but bumps that would give rise to concern when using other phones didn't rate when using the 5210. That is the biggest advantage of this phone and makes it a recommended purchase not just for fitness freaks but for anyone who likes their phone to be durable.

This Nokia would benefit from being more than just splash resistant - perhaps water resistant, considering Australians' love for all things aqua. Nonetheless, it is a solid mobile device.
