EzyDVD set to challenge Telstra Bigpond

EzyDVD, Australia's largest online DVD store, confirmed today that it will be launching a movie download service, EzyDownload. The new service, which has been in active development for five months, is set to be launched in September this year.

EzyDVD founder Jim Zavos said; "EzyDVD is building a one-stop, online entertainment portal in EzyDownload, with content from major Hollywood studios, independents and music companies, offering legal download-to-rent and download-to-own options." The service will cover a broad range of entertainment media, including the latest movies, TV shows, music concerts, classic films and documentaries. It will also be the only Australian movie download company to offer a Data Transfer Object (DTO) service.

Zavos has also confirmed that EzyDownload is partnering with ISPs around the country to promote 'no cap limit' downloading. "This will give Australians access to extensive content at fair prices", Zavos said.

When it launches, EzyDownload is set to directly challenge Bigpond Movies, which is currently the dominant movie download service in Australia. With more than 35,000 daily visitors and 220,000 active subscribers, EzyDVD is ideally placed to take on its Telstra rival. Since its inception in 1999, EzyDVD has grown to become the most popular DVD website in Australia, receiving 12 per cent of all DVD related Internet traffic.

To jump start its venture, EzyDVD has acquired the assets of download provider, Reeltime and employed some of its key technical staff. "EzyDownload is implementing a new technical infrastructure that provides a more user friendly to that used by Reeltime", according to Zavos.
