Spore spawns 'Sporn' porn

In a somewhat predictable turn of events, the early release of a user-playable component of the upcoming Spore video game has led to the creation of a series of animations that are a little more explicit than the game's developers probably expected.
'Sporn' — a contraction of 'Spore porn' — is the latest catch-phrase coined to describe sexually explicit creatures that have been made using the game's Creature Creator engine. This mini-game allows players to design and build their own creatures using a massive library of body parts and features, and then upload them to a central database which will feature in the Spore universe. Pre-existing creatures on the Electronic Arts-published game's 'Sporepedia' Web site include Earth-friendly monkeys, dinosaurs and insects as well as the bizarre, alien and unrecognisable.
While the main game itself isn't set to be released until September 7, the Creature Creator component was made available for download on the Internet last week.
Everything on the Sporepedia Web site is family-friendly, although the game is yet to be classified in Australia and the US. However, this has not stopped some players of the game from attempting to create the most sexually explicit creatures possible.
The first creature to attract attention was a penis-shaped monster complete with floating heart shapes, created by PC Gamer UK deputy editor Tim Edwards. The creature was featured on the publication's Web site, and soon led to a response from PC Gamer US, with a 'Boobalicious' animal, created by editor-in-chief Kristen Salvatore.
Although Electronic Arts chastised the creators for violating the game's terms of service, this has not stopped users. Sporn clips soon hit the game's official video-sharing Web site, Youtube, and while these clips are being removed from the site, more and more are becoming available.

Creatures vary from oversized reproductions of genitalia, to humanoid creatures in various lewd positions, to complete sexually explicit scenes.
Spore is the latest game created by Will Wright, who was responsible for the massively popular Sims series. Spore operates on the same free-form, DIY concept as The Sims, but it seems users may be able to take their imaginations further than ever before. Despite the controversy surrounding the Creature Creator, the full game's success is almost guaranteed — the Sims series is the most successful PC gaming franchise in history.
