With no mention of the market-leading Wii, Microsoft Tuesday said the Xbox 360 would outsell its HD rival, the PlayStation 3.

With no mention of the market-leading Wii, Microsoft Tuesday said the Xbox 360 would outsell its HD rival, the PlayStation 3.

"Xbox 360 will sell more consoles worldwide this generation than PlayStation 3," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of Microsoft's Xbox division, during the company's E3 press briefing on Monday.

In addition to its one year availability head start over PS3, Microsoft said the following upcoming games will be more than enough for the Xbox 360 to retain the lead: Gears of War 2, Resident Evil 5, Fable 2, Fallout 3, a two month timed-exclusive for Rock Band 2, and the newly announced port of Final Fantasy XIII.

Currently, Microsoft has sold an estimated 20 million Xbox 360s worldwide, compared to Sony's 14 million PS3s, and Nintendo's 28 million Wiis.
