Monks get superfast broadband upgrade
Dialup is so slow it exhausts the patience even of saints. Well, monks.
A group of Welsh monks became so teed off with dialup they had broadband installed on their remote island.
The 15 cyber-savvy monks live on Caldey Island, off the coast of Tenby, Pembrokeshire, West Wales. And not only do they have broadband, they've got TFL Group to install an uber fast 30Mbps wireless network.
Father Daniel, Abbot of Caldey Abbey, said: "Patience is one of the characteristics of monastic life, but even the patience of the brothers was being tested by our slow, dialup internet service."
As well as, presumably, browsing YouTube and MySpace and playing Soldier of Fortune, the monks use the tinterweb to sell a range of products they produce.
