A new, cube-shaped radio called the elements W supports both Internet radio and good old FM broadcasts and is on sale now, Germany's Sonoro Audio announced at the IFA electronics show in Berlin on Wednesday.

Users can choose from more than 10,000 Internet radio stations from around the world and sort them by, for example, country or genre, according to Sonoro.

The wide variety of stations available makes Internet radio an attractive option for music enthusiasts, according to Marcell Faller, Sonoro's founder and CEO.

Besides support for Internet and FM radio, the product has a digital alarm clock, a remote control and support for Wi-Fi. The sound comes from a full-range, upward-facing speaker with an integrated bass reflex tube. It measures about 210 mm x 115 mm x 130 mm and weighs about 1.5 kilograms.

Sonoro, like many others, wants to attract iPod owners, so it lets them connect their iPods to the elements W using the auxiliary input cord, which is included, or an external docking station, which comes as an optional extra.

The company tried to make the elements W look as sleek as possible. It follows two current design trends: using a glossy lacquered finish (in this case in black or white), and an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display. It also has an LED-illuminated dial for adjusting volume and tuning, and the unit is turned on and off with a touch sensor.

The radio is priced at €399 (US$585), and the optional external iPod docking station will set you back another €69 (US$101).
