The so-called US$100 laptop from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative will be available via Amazon.com in the U.S. from November.

The cheap laptop, originally designed solely for schoolchildren in emerging economies and not for western economies, will be available under OLPC's Give One, Get One program, under which a person pays for two of the XO laptops - one to keep and one that's donated to a child in a developing country.

The program was initially set up in the U.S. for a short period in 2007, and rumors earlier this year suggested the Give One, Get One deal could be introduced to the U.K.

But to start with, Amazon will offer the XO laptop in the U.S. only. It's expected to become available via the online retailer around the time of Thanksgiving in the U.S. Sales will likely extend through to around the end of December.
