Seven years after Nintendo unveiled the GameCube to Game Boy Advance link cable, Sony Thursday followed suit with PSP Plus, which connects select portable games to PlayStation 3, starting with Resistance: Retribution.

The first game to benefit from PSP Plus is Resistance: Retribution, which launches in spring 2009. At release, owners of both Resistance: Retribution and Resistance 2 can connect their PSP to PS3 using a USB cable to unlock exclusive content and play modes.

In doing so, an alternate campaign mode is unlocked in Retribution, allowing players to use a wireless Dualshock 3 controller with rumble, and/or play the game on a nice big TV. The connectivity mode lasts until the PSP is turned off, says Sony.

The bonus feature arrives seven years after Nintendo announced GBA to GameCube connectivity in 2001, which while enjoyable for the limited number of games supporting it, failed to gain significant traction.
