Symantec to deliver cloud-based backup service

Symantec will begin offering an online storage service targeted at consumers by the end of next month.
The product is based on technology the company acquired with SwapDrive in June for US$124 million.
A Symantec spokeswoman would not provide any additional detail other than saying that the service will be a "stand alone, cloud-based, online back-up offering."
Symantec already offers 2GB of online storage for free with its Norton 360 security suite; additional allotments of 5GB, 10GB and 25GB per year can be purchased for US$29.99, US$49.99 and US$69.99, respectively.
Symantec joins EMC on the consumer cloud storage front. EMC acquired Mozy in 2007 and released its first software-as-a-service storage application in January 2008.
Privately-held Carbonite also offers online storage, charging US$49.95 for a 12-month subscription.

Remember Steek SA, the 3-screen online storage provider
Surprisingly, no mention made of Steek SA of France, a major international provider of multi-devices online storage related services !
Steek formerly known as Agematis has been around since 2002, has recently raised $8M and has earned a serious reputation as a white label "stand alone, cloud-based, online storage offering" provider to worldwide ISPs and mobile operators...
Steek opened a datacenter in the USA in mid 2008 and has another one in Singapore.
The Company has just set up an office in NYC to run its North American operations...
