Rape simulating video game boycotted by NY City Council
New York City Council is calling for a ban of the controversial PC game.
GamePolitics reports that New York City Councilwoman Christine Quinn is calling for a ban of RapeLay, a controversial PC game that encourages players to rape women, including a mother and her two daughters.
The video game Councilwoman Quinn will be protesting in Manhattan's City Hall was forcefully removed from Amazon.com's online catalogue. In addition to allowing players to commit various forms of sexual assault, RapeLay's players must also avoid the "dangers of pregnancy" while attacking victims.
Even though pornographic games like RapeLay are not sold by major video game stores like GameStop and EBGames, Quinn is still calling for US retailers to not distribute RapeLay.
In the press release for the news conference, RapeLay will be the subject of a news conference hosted by [Quinn]... who will call on all U.S. video distributors to refuse its distribution or sale... The "game" is now available in the U.S. market...

Young children do not play
Young children do not play games that are not sold by major retailers. Are YOU even aware of where to buy a game that Walmart/Best Buy/Gamestop refuses to carry? No? Well typically they're places that are much more rigorous in making sure the purchaser is of legal age. You can't blame everything on the system.
Sometimes it's painfully obvious when it is the parents responsibility to control their kids.
rapelay and other violent games
I think rapelay and other games like it should be banned. You have to realize these games are played by young adults as well as grown adults. We are condoning violence in our society, at a time that violence is at an all time high. There are numerous examples of kids who have been influenced by these games.

How can you allow games where the point is to murder, but not games where the point is to rape? How can it be okay to "kill" someone in a video game but not to "rape" someone, which is a less serious crime?
This is censorship
A ban of ANY video game is censorship. Rapelay should not be banned. If people like the game Rapelay, they have a right to own it and play it. If Councilwoman Quinn does not like the game, then she does not have to buy it. And why isn't Councilwoman Quenn protesting Grand Theft Auto and other video games where the player gets to murder? Surely, she doesn't think rape is worse than murder, does she. If so, she is delusional.
