Internode pumps up Tasmania's data capacity
Speeds expected to reach one gigabit by year’s end
ISP Internode has announced will be boosting its data capacity between Tasmania and mainland Australia through a new deal with Basslink.
The agreement, which will see Internode increase its data capacity across Bass Strait by more than 150 per cent, sees Internode sign on as the first ISP customer of Basslink’s fibre optic cable service.
The three-year contract with Basslink is for an initial data capacity of 622 megabits per second with speeds later in the year expected to reach more than one gigabit.
Internode carrier relations manager John Lindsay said the agreement would see its Tasmanian customers gain access to speeds similar to those available on mainland Australia.
"As well as virtually halving our cost of backhauling data across Bass Strait, the Basslink service will allow us to exploit economies of scale as we grow," he said.
