Telstra unveils new mobile user interface

Motorola's MOTOSURF A3100 will be one of the first mobile phones to include the new TelstraOne Experience interface.
Telstra today announced the launch of a new mobile interface, dubbed the TelstraOne Experience, which will be exclusive to a range of Next G mobile phones.
The TelstraOne Experience interface aims to simplify access to the applications and services available on the Next G network — such as Mobile Foxtel, WhereIs and Facebook — by providing one-click access to them.
"Customised icons take customers directly to the most popular applications and services like phonebook, calendar and social networking", said Telstra's Glenice Maclellan. "TelstraOne Experience gives customers greater control over the services they want to use on their mobile phone."
According to Telstra, the new interface is the result of consumer research that revealed users "didn't want to hunt through endless submenus to access their favourite features quickly".
"We know mobile users want a navigation experience that is intuitive", said Ross Fielding of Telstra. "With TelstraOne, the experience will be customisable to the customer's individual requirements."
The TelstraOne Experience mobile interface is initially available on two new mobile phones — the Motorola MOTOSURF A3100 and the Sony Ericsson W705. Both phones were released on the Telstra network today. Telstra stated that further phones that include the TelstraOne Experience interface will be released in the coming months.
The Motorola MOTOSURF A3100 is a full touch-screen device running the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system. It is 7.2Mbps HSDPA-capable, has a trackball that looks remarkably similar to the BlackBerry Pearl and features a 2.8in display, Wi-Fi and a 3-megapixel camera.
The Sony Ericsson W705 is a Walkman handset that offers Wi-Fi and a 3.2-megapixel camera, and it includes a 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card in the sales package. The W705 is also Blue Tick–rated, meaning it's recommended by Telstra for use in regional areas of Australia.
The Motorola MOTOSURF A3100 will be available from 11 May on a $60 Telstra plan over 24 months, or for $829 outright. The Sony Ericsson W705 is released on 19 May, and will be launched on a $40 plan over 24 months or for $619 outright.
