Headroom launches new headphone amplifier, digital sound card
Ultra Desktop models use technology from flagship products
Headroom's Ultra Desktop Digital to Analog converter.
Headroom Corporation has released two new products aimed at home audio enthusiasts that use technology from its flagship headphone amplifiers but are cheaper.
The Ultra Desktop DAC is a digital-to-analog converter that can accept S/PDIF digital signals on coaxial and TOSLINK optical connections as well as digital audio from a computer through a plug-and-play USB port. Using the same DAC technology found in the discontinued flagship Max models, the Ultra Desktop is priced at $US1299.
The Balanced Ultra Desktop Amplifier (or BUDA) includes the same Class-A amplification circuit as found in flagship Headroom models. It can drive two pairs of regular headphones simultaneously, or can accept input from a single pair of balanced headphones to suit extreme audiophiles.
