ROCCAT VIRE: the 'lightest PC headset in the world'
Gaming earphones have an in-line microphone, weigh only 15 grams

German gaming peripheral manufacturer ROCCAT has released details of its latest product, the VIRE gaming headset. The ROCCAT VIRE combines a set of ear-buds with an in-line microphone to deliver what the company calls “brilliant sound” despite the headset only weighing 15 grams.

The company claims this is a trend set in Korea, where hardcore professional gamers use earphones in preference to headphones, as normal gaming headphones like the Razer Carcharias, Logitech G35 and Plantronics GameCom 777 are too heavy, warm and lead to fatigue. The ROCCAT VIRE comes with an additional adapter cable to ensure the earphones can be used with either a PC or a portable device such as an MP3 player, iPhone or Blackberry.

The company will release the VIRE gaming headset in July for €39.99 in several European countries.
