LG Electronics has announced the launch of its LH50 LCD television, which uses a 200Hz refresh rate for high quality motion handling.

The LG LH50 uses a Super-IPS (in-line plane switching) panel and has a native Full HD 1080p resolution. LG has dubbed its motion smoothing technology TruMotion 200Hz. Operating differently to the 200Hz frame interpolation of the Sony BRAVIA KDL40Z4500, LG’s system uses a combination of frame insertion and backlight scanning to create new inserted frames, as well as black frames with the backlight disabled. The insertion of these frames allegedly reduces motion blur and improves sharpness and contrast levels.

The LG LH50 TVs are available in sizes from 32in to 55in, with the most expensive LG 55LH50YD 55in model having an RRP of $4799. The cheapest is the 32in 32LH50YD at $1799, but this is only a 100Hz model. The smallest 200Hz LH50 television is the LG 37LH50YD, priced at $2199. All models apart from the LG 55LH50YD are available now, with the range-topping screen in stores by the end of June. Check out a slideshow of the LG LH50 television .
