The first full turn-by-turn navigation app for the iPhone has been launched — and it isn't from TomTom.

Sygic Mobile Maps 2009 Australia is available now from the Apple App Store, with a price tag of $79.99. The Sygic app includes Australian and New Zealand maps from Australian mapping provider Whereis.

Sygic claims the Mobile Maps 2009 app includes more than 600,000 points of interest, including content from Yellow Pages and UBD, as well as speed and red light alerts. It also offers instant rerouting, lane assistance, speed restrictions and a number of other safety alerts.

"We are excited to launch our new navigation product to the Australian market and very pleased to partner with Australia’s leading mapping provider, Whereis," said Anna Hurbanic, Sygic's PR manager.

Sygic Mobile Maps 2009 Australia is available now from the iTunes App Store. It can be found under the "navigation" category or by simply searching for “Sygic”.

GPS manufacturer TomTom has announced the impending release of a dedicated app and car kit for the iPhone. Navigon has also announced an iPhone app, called MobileNavigator, though no release date has been set.
