O2 grabs Palm Pre as UK exclusive

iPhone and Pre makes O2 number 1

According to a report in the Guardian newspaper UK mobile operator O2 will next week announce a deal with Palm to be the exclusive UK partner for the Palm Pre mobile phone handset. O2 has so far refrained from commenting on the report.

The Palm Pre is considered the most viable alternative to the Apple iPhone, and getting an exclusive UK distribution deal is a coup for O2. Reports suggest that the previously struggling Palm has already sold more than 300,000 Pre devices in the US since it went on sale only last month.

O2 has an exclusive deal with Apple to stock the iPhone, and is the UK's largest mobile phone network. The Apple iPhone 3GS went on sale through O2 recently, and continued the phenomenal success of Apple's smartphone.

Mobile phone reviews and advice

Meanwhile the Palm Pre has been a hit with reviewers, and is eagerly anticipated by UK smartphone fans. Unlike Apple's iPhone it has a full slideout keyboard.

The Pre's screen has also been judged in some quarters as better than its Apple rival, and it boasts Palm's ground-breaking WebOS, which makes navigation and user interaction a fun, pain-free affair.

The Pre doesn't require a cable to charge, needing only to sit on what Palm calls its "Touchstone", and charging via magnetic induction.

As yet, there has been no official announcement on the release of the Palm Pre in Australia.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
