3 Mobile expected to sell out iPhone 3GS just three days after launch

3 expects current stocks of the iPhone 3G S to be sold out this weekend, just days after its launch.

Australian telco 3 has almost sold out of Apple's iPhone 3GS online on the day of launch.

The iPhone 3GS was launched today through 3 stores and online at 3's Web site, but 3 has confirmed the current demand for the smartphone is causing "some stock shortages".

Both the 16GB and 32GB models of the iPhone are already marked as "out of stock" on 3's online store, while the company has confirmed that stock is strictly limited in 3 stores and dealers.

A 3 spokesperson said that 3 expects current stocks of the iPhone 3GS to be sold out over the weekend, although stock of the iPhone 3G 8GB model — offered for free on a $49 cap over 24 months — is still available. 3 hasn't stated when the iPhone 3GS will be back in stock.

3 has set up a pre-registration portal for customers interested in purchasing an iPhone 3GS. 3 will contact consumers via email or SMS when stocks are available.

The stock shortage comes on the back of yesterday's announcement that 3 was dropping its monthly repayment prices on almost all iPhone plans.

i also started to think that

i also started to think that this is just a trick
i will seriously consider change to another telco if i can't get it until 15th Aug
3 is losing so many customers now and they should be aware of that!

still waiting

I am still waiting for a 32GB White and a black one. I got a cal yesterday saying they have got in stock in Bondi Westfield.. but it was unfortunately in Vodafone network.. Isnt it a wonder that other telcos have it while Three doesnt. I think they just want their 8GB to go before they get the new 3GS..

trying to empty the stock which i guess no one wants..
I think i will go for some other telco if i dont get a news in the next week or so..

the whole things a scam

if your waiting for a 32gb iphone, then expect to wait at least 6 months. I just got off the phone from their call centre and they said it was nothing more than a PR exercise. They purposely only put a few in each store to create news and hype up the company for some free newspaper space.
My advice-go to another telco.

Losing customers

Same deal with me. They only stocked their store with 4 units and for the last 2 weeks have been blaming Apple even though every other supplier has been in stock throughout the period!

Am seriously thinking about cancelling my 3 contract even though it will cost $390 just to teach them a lesson about crappy customer service. I hope a bunch of people do the same.

Stupid

I went to my local 3 store on launch day to be told they sold out about 10.30am. I asked them how many 16bg 3GS phones they sold..... 4.... just 4....!!!! hardly a 'massive' success....
What was insulting was the sales girl trying to sell me a 3G model as they had LOTS of them in stock. She even tried to spin it as being 'just as good' as the newer model!

Dissapointing

The earliest I was able to get online or phone was 10:30am and all the 3gs models were gone.
I heard there was about 30,000 on the pre registration list, I wonder how many phones they got??
Not enough clearly.
