German GPS manufacturer Navigon has released an Australian version of its MobileNavigator Lite app for the iPhone, allowing users to try the software before deciding to purchase the full version.
Navigon MobileNavigator Lite displays the user’s position on a map and allows them to search for nearby POIs, but it has no active route guidance. The full version of the turn-by-turn navigation app is expected to launch "soon"; Navigon hasn't revealed a release date.
"The Lite version offers a preview of Navigon’s full application for the iPhone," said Egon Minar, CEO of Navigon. "In Europe, the Navigon MobileNavigator for the iPhone has been tremendously successful, and very soon, it will be available in Australia as well."
The full version of MobileNavigator for iPhone will include a number of features seen on Navigon's dedicated in-car GPS units including Reality View Pro, Lane Assistant Pro, Speed Assistant and Day & Night mode. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.
Navigon's MobileNavigator is the second turn-by-turn GPS app to hit the Australian App Store, following Sygic's Mobile Maps 2009 iPhone app, which launched in June.
GPS manufacturer TomTom has also announced the impending release of a dedicated app and car kit for the iPhone, though no release date has been set.
