Internode has launched its 'NakedExtreme' naked ADSL service in Tasmania, following its mainland launch in August last year. The new service is expected to fill in metropolitan broadband blackspots that currently affect the island.

Internode’s Extreme broadband services are delivered to customers from telephone exchanges equipped with the ISP's own DSLAM equipment.

The NakedExtreme service extends broadband reach from 4.1km to up to 7.5km, with potential broadband area coverage increasing from 52 to 176 square kilometres. The new service was made possible by the Basslink fibre-optic cable, which is the first fibre link connecting Hobart and Victoria that's not owned by Telstra.

Internode is planning to rapidly expand the availability of its Extreme services over the next six months. “We are installing our own equipment in an extra 10 telephone exchanges,” said product manager Jim Kellett. “That expansion will make Internode's NakedExtreme and Extreme ADSL2+ services available to more than 90,000 Tasmanian premises, including over 12,000 businesses.”

The NakedExtreme service delivers broadband over a phone line with no phone service attached. Phone calls are made via the NodePhone VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service.

A NakedExtreme service costs just $10 more than the equivalent Extreme ADSL2+ service. NakedExtreme is available in Home, SOHO & Business plans, with prices starting at $49.95 a month (for a 5GB monthly download quota). For more information, visit the Internode Web site.
