More than half of all Australian households have completed the switch to digital television, according to Senator Stephen Conroy, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.
A press release by the minister claims 53 per cent of Australian households have converted to digital television, which is a rise of 6 per cent over the previous quarter. Awareness of the switchover has also increased, with 93 per cent of consumers aware of the existence and benefits of digital television compared to analog. Eighty two per cent of digital TV viewers are pleased with the additional channels and picture quality.
The Federal Government has named 31 December, 2013, as the cut-off for analog TV, which has been broadcasting in Australia since 16 September, 1956.
