The future of online gaming: 'Fusion'

The disposition of online game users is diverse and trends are rapidly changing, as well as the preferred games... Through a survey of online game developers on the next generation online game genre, let us draw an advance picture of next generation games that users discover.
Fusion the trend
The survey which asks the future direction of next generation online game genres, conducted by KyunHyang Games, 56.8% of 600 respondents who are Korean online game developers, replied that "fusion", would take the first place. The dominant opinion was that mixing genres would be the future trend. Those surveyed claim it would be too farfetched to pursue only one genre to satisfy users' diverse desires. Among the opinions stated were, "Games with diverse classes and preferences will be the dominant trend" and "One-type genres are not as fun."
RPG games came in second place. Respondents agreed that users who play online games casually eventually will prefer RPGs where one can enjoy various experiences. As reasons, they gave "fully putting into use the sociability that comes with communication among people;" and "most of the games that succeed are RPG games." "As design is the trend, RPG games nowadays can be expressed more grandiosely and fabulously," another added.
Action ranked in third place. The dominant opinion was that the borderline between console games and online games is breaking down slowly, but a clear difference still exists with action games so they have great potential to develop as online games. Opinions given to support this argument were "easily approachable," "strong immersion in the game" and "users' interest is focusing on action."
Sports were cited in fourth place, followed by racing as fifth. Other opinions given were "action RPG," "FPS," and "If it is fun, the genre doesn't matter."
Various opinions were expressed in the survey on next generation online games. As next generation online games, the fusion genre was preferred. Respondents all agreed that omnidirectional technological innovation and graphics that make it look real would be in the spotlight.
