Japanese artist unveils mechanical PC 'tumour'
Welcome to the next stage in bio-horror...
It's like watching a bug eat another bug's face off: disgusting, but impossible to look away.
It's like watching a bug eat another bug's face off: disgusting, but impossible to look away.

Avant-garde media artist Mio I-zawa has just released footage and photos of his most intriguing (and disturbing) creation yet: a mechanical 'tumour' sprouting from a PC that quivers and pulsates depending on the CPU load. All together now: Ewwwwwww!

The mechanical tumour pulsates gently when the computer is idle, like a disembodied, pustule-covered heart. An inbuilt air compressor is activated when the CPU is under load, causing the lump of flesh to inflate and contract wildly. Perfect for late night Doom 3 sessions, we're sure you'll agree.

The grafting together of technology and biology holds a repellent fascination for some: to quote Calvin & Hobbes, it's like watching a bug eat another bug's face off (disgusting, but impossible to look away). If you're a fan of Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo films or David Cronenberg's 'body horror' output, the mechanical tumor is doubtlessly up your vessel-lined alley. ...Sicko.
