Modder creates NES emulator inside a cartridge
A particularly weird hack that nearly made our collective head explode

We've seen some cool shrunken-down consoles courtesy of modder Ben Heckerdorn, but now the denizens of his site's official forums have found some cool ways to make old systems new again. Gizmodo found a particularly weird hack that nearly made our collective head explode. Someone has managed to fit an NES emulator, with a controller and screen... inside an NES cartridge.

The creator, who goes by airz on the BenHeck.com forums, posted his step by step process of creating this mod late last week, with photographs of the cartridge-systems innards and a YouTube video of the system in action. It is truly a magnificent work of tech, and dare we say, art?

Airz is currently contemplating creating an SNES game-within-a-cartridge. Hopefully, it will end up looking just as retro-cool.
